Biography
Starts his career in 1995 with Da Weasel. Among the many tours, we highlight the first part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Pavilhão Atlântico (1999). In 2000, Da Weasel reached silver awards with albums Chapter Three and Initiation A Banal Life – The Handbook and four years later won the Best Portuguese Act at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Rome.
Re-Definitions appears in 2005. Receives the quadruple platinum award for over eighty thousand units sold. They receive two Golden Globes (Best Group and Best Song of the Year), among many other awards. On stage, we highlight the sold out of the Coliseum (Lisbon and Porto) and Olympia de Paris.
In 2006 participate in the compilation Play Up of the World Cup. That year, they join the symphony orchestra, directed by Rui Massena, in a unique show where Hip-Hop fuses with classical music.
The following year, they release the album Amor, Escárnio and Maldizer, with the participation of Gato Fedorento, Bernardo Sassetti, American rapper and producer Atiba the Dappa and also the Prague orchestra conducted by Maestro Rui Massena, which gave rise to a concert on Pavilhão Atlantico entitled to a DVD recording.
On December 9, 2010, Da Weasel announce the end of the group on their official website. This is where Virgul founds NuSoulFamily with the intention of reinventing funky, house and pop styles, winning another MTV Europe Music Awards for Best Portuguese Act, this time in Madrid. At this stage, he collaborates with artists such as Boss AC, Mind the Gap, Expensive Soul, Sam the Kid, Valete, GNR, etc.
His influences range from Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder or from Sean Paul to Will I Am, who is inspired by his self for the near future …
This future is now!
Virgul debuted his first solo single “I Need This Girl”, which summarizes the essentials about the first work in his own name: a House, Pop and Tropical sound that makes us travel between Jamaica and the Algarve. It is characterized by this mix of influences and styles that come together harmoniously in a unique style. 2016 is the year of revelation of its identity, with songs that appeal to dance, good mood and joy.
Already 2017 is the year of consecration with his debut album, released last November. The fourth single chosen is “Nina”, a song that is part of the lineup of the album Saber Aceitar. Virgul had a concert-packed 2017, with about 80 dates from north to south of the country, catching the public with its energetic live performances. Tour Saber Accept is expected to smile this year 2018. Virgul is the true performer and entertainer, enlivening the stage like no other artist in Portugal.
